On January 1, 2018, minimum wage increased in Ontario from $11.60 per hour to $14 per hour. The Liberal government proposed that the minimum wage increase to $15 per hour by 2019. However, with the change in government and Ford becoming Premier, most recent news has stated that Ontario's Progressive Conservative government has halted the planned increase for next year. Ontario's minimum wage will stay at $14 per hour.
Ontario's Progressive Conservative government has halted the increase because of complaints from businesses, complaints of raised prices, and employee's concerns regarding cut hours and benefits.
