Ontario minimum wage has steadily been increasing over time. The hourly minimum wage last increased in October 2015 from $11 to $11.25.

Current minimum wage by Canadian province:

  • Alberta: $11.20
  • British Columbia: $10.45
  • Manitoba: $11
  • New Brunswick: $10.30
  • Newfoundland and Labrador: $10.50
  • Northwest Territories: $12.50
  • Nova Scotia: $10.60
  • Nunavut: $11
  • Ontario: $11.25
  • Prince Edward Island: $10.50
  • Quebec: $10.55
  • Saskatchewan: $10.50
  • Yukon: $10.86

Why is minimum wage increasing?

Minimum wage rates are subject to annual indexation based on the rate of inflation, and Ontario’s Consumer Price Index.

When does the new minimum wage come into effect?

Minimum wage will increase from $11.25 to $11.40 effective October 1, 2016.

If there is a change in minimum wage, the Ontario Ministry of Labour will make an announcement around March/April and changes come into effect in October.

Does this affect me?

If you are a current assignment employee of Liberty Staffing Services, and if you are working for one of our client companies which pays you minimum wage, then you will receive a 15 cent wage increase effective October 1, 2016. Whether you are a full time or part time employee receiving minimum wage, your pay will increase following October 1. Only individuals paid minimum wage before October 1 are eligible to receive this wage increase.

How do I receive my pay increase?

If you are eligible to receive a wage increase on October 1 2016, you will automatically receive the appropriate funds in your paycheque or bank account (if paid by direct deposit).
