5_Things_to_Do_in_Every_Job_ApplicationIf you're currently looking for work, you're probably sending out one job application after another in hopes of a call back for an interview. Applying to job opportunities is very time consuming. Looking for work is a full time job in itself.

Liberty Staffing would like to provide you with some tips in regarding to job applications. Here's a list of what you should be doing every time you apply to a new job opportunity. Read on.

1. Read the Job Description Carefully

Before you even think of applying to a job opportunity, read the job description carefully and thoroughly. Does the position seem like something you could do? Do you have the necessary experience required for the position? Think of the possible downfalls with your application. If you feel like your chances are good, apply away. If not, move on to a different job advertisement.

Don't waste your time applying for a position that you know you're under qualified or overqualified for. If your gut is telling you that you won't gain the position because of these factors, then it's safe to say that you shouldn't apply.

Also, don't apply to every position that comes your way just because you're in a financial bind. Applying for every job opportunity out there takes a lot of time, and it's not in your best interest to send out applications to jobs that you truly aren't passionate about.

2. Cater Your Cover Letter and Resume for Every Job

A big no-no that many job seekers make is that they send the same cover letter/resume to every job opportunity, no matter what field. If you've read the job description carefully, you'll know that the employer will be looking for something specific. Figure out what that is and cater your cover letter and resume to that. This will greatly increase your chances of gaining employment.

3. Follow All Instructions

Make sure to follow all instructions (if any) on the job advertisement. Does the advertisement give specific instructions of how you should apply? If so, follow these. Are you required to write a cover letter for the position? If unsure, make sure to find out.

Failure to follow instructions will show the potential employer that you do not follow directions well, you do not pay close attention to detail, and you didn't spend a lot of time reading the job application.

4. Proofread Before Sending Documents

Is your cover letter and resume ready to go? Before you apply to any job opportunity, make sure to proofread all documents before you send them out. Check for grammar mistakes and spelling errors. Take a look at your margins. Are they aligned? Have you written your best work experience possible that pertains to this position? Proofread before you send any documents over to a hiring manager.

5. Follow Up

Last, but certainly not least, make sure to follow up after you apply to a job opportunity. If you are sending out multiple resumes a day, it's important to keep track of the jobs that you've applied to. That way, if you are called back for an interview, you'll appear knowledgeable and will know exactly which job it is.

You can follow up with a phone call, email, or LinkedIn message. Just make sure that the job advertisement states that follow up calls are not prohibited.
