How_to_Gain_an_Entry_Level_Office_Job.jpgJob seekers know just how difficult it can be to gain employment, especially if you are looking for a career in the office sector. Office positions often require previous experience and specific skills needed in order to successfully execute tasks. So how can you obtain an office position, especially if you have just entered the workforce for the first time? Here’s what to do.

Update/Market Your Resume

It’s important that you update your resume with any applicable office experience that you have. If you don’t necessarily have office experience, it’s a good idea to market any work experience you have towards office-related tasks. For example, if you’ve worked in retail in the past, it’s a good idea to emphasize your customer service experience. If you have experience working with specific office software in school, note that as well. Note any transferable office experience you can on your resume.

Inquire with Friends and Family Members

Perhaps a friend or family member knows someone who is looking to hire an entry-level office person. Having an inside source can help you gain a leg up, especially if they put in a good word for you. That’s why it’s always good to network and be on the constant look out for openings, no matter where you are.

Attend Job Fairs

A good way to get your name (and resume) out there is to attend job fairs in your area. Look online and in the newspaper for a job fair near you. Attend any job fairs that are hiring for office positions. You can make a good first impression on lots of employers during a job fair. Attending and applying to job opportunities at a job fair may help you land the job. After all, you will have met the employer already, giving you an advantage over candidates who simply apply online.

Volunteer Your Time

If you don’t have any work experience which can be transferable to office work, it may be a good idea to spend some time volunteering or completing an internship. You can search for a volunteer/internship online and apply. An employer will appreciate your dedication to gain experience, even if it’s an unpaid position.
