Information for cannabis legalization.

Information for cannabis legalization.

The legalization of marijuana in Canada commenced on October 17 2018. Liberty Staffing Services has amended the Assignment Employee Agreement which reflects the change.

Liberty Staffing Services is observing this change the same way in which we observe rules and regulations on alcohol and other drugs that cause impairment in the workplace.

As a client of Liberty Staffing, and an employer in Ontario, here's what you need to know regarding this topic:

  • Consuming recreational cannabis in the workplace is illegal
  • Employers and supervisors are required to address workplace hazards, under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Employees and workers who are unable or unfit to work safely could be hazard to themselves or to others in the workplace and have a duty to perform work safely and to report any hazards to their supervisor under the OHSA
  • Medical or prescription cannabis will continue to be subject to different rules than recreational or non-prescription cannabis, however Liberty Staffing Services continues to enforce a zero-tolerance impairment policy
  • Smoke-free laws apply to smoking marijuana in the same manner they do to regular cigarettes

Please do not hesitate to contact Liberty Staffing Services directly, should you request further information and/or explanation on this matter.
