Can-a-Temp-Staffing-Firm-Really-Help-Me.jpgFinding the right job can be incredibly difficult. You spend hours going through listings and polishing your resume and cover letter, only to send them out into the void with little to no response.

It becomes even more difficult when you’re looking for temp work. A lot of companies don’t advertise their temp positions in the same way that they do their full-time availabilities. What they often do instead is go through staffing firms that specialize in temp work. If you’re looking for a temp job and you’re having difficulty landing work, working with a temp staffing firm can completely change the outlook of your search for temporary employment

Resume and Cover Letter Guidance

One of the most common reasons job seekers don’t land the jobs they apply for is because their resumes or cover letters failed to hit the mark with recruiters.

It’s important to remember that recruiters look through hundreds of resumes after posting a job listing; your resume needs to stand out and accurately represent your skill set. When it comes to temp work, resumes and cover letters are even more important. Companies looking to hire temporary employees are looking for a very specific set of skills. They need to be able to understand from your resume that you can jump into the position and start being productive immediately.

You need to tailor your resume to the nature of the work; the resume you have for full-time positions won’t be as effective when you’re applying for temp work. Temp staffing firms are experts in what companies are looking for in a resume or cover letter from applicants for temp positions. They can give you invaluable guidance that can make the difference between you not finding work and landing the position.

Additional Training

Because temporary workers are hired for a set amount of time, the onboarding process for temp workers versus that for full-time hires is significantly different. Quite simply, when a company is hiring a temp, it doesn’t have the same amount of time to dedicate to onboarding and training as it would if it were hiring you on full-time.

That means that companies expect you to be able to jump into the position with little training provided. Any temp firm that takes you on board as a candidate will be keenly aware of the skills and training necessary in order for you to get a job.

The Hidden Job Market

As mentioned earlier, the temp market operates slightly different than the regular employment market. The biggest difference tends to be the way in which companies go about acquiring temp workers. While most companies will list available positions on job boards, temporary hiring tends to happen more behind the scenes.

With the temporary employment market, there is a hidden job market that is only accessible through staffing firms. For companies, working through a staffing firm for temp workers makes a lot of sense. Staffing firms do extensive screening and only forward them the most qualified candidates. This saves time and money.

When you work with a staffing firm that specializes in temporary work, you gain access to this hidden job market. The ability to see and apply for positions that are not publicly listed means that there’s not only more opportunity, there’s also less competition.

When it comes to temp work, pairing with a temp staffing firm is one of the best things that you can do.
