Once you’ve had a chance to relax a little after exams, you may find yourself getting a bit bored. Maybe you’ve noticed your bank account is looking a little depleted. If you’re heading back to school in the fall, you might think about how you’re going to manage your tuition bill along with books and a meal plan.

It’s time to apply for summer work! Summer is a busy season for many industries, and many businesses are looking to hire students like you to fill seasonal positions for the next few months. You couldn’t ask for a better match.

Spruce Up Your Resume

You may have heard some graduating students talk about getting their resumes in order. Maybe they went to a resume writing service. Perhaps they talked to a guidance counsellor or another expert at school to help them.

You should follow their lead if you’re looking for a summer job. Spruce up your resume by paying attention to some of the latest trends. What are recruiters and hiring managers looking for?

If you’re not sure how to improve, you can always ask someone to look over your resume. A recruiter may be able to help you improve.

Talk to a Recruiter

Speaking of recruiters, have you considered working with one? If you want to land summer work quickly, teaming up with a recruitment firm like Liberty Staffing might be your best bet.

Recruiters work closely with hiring managers in many different industries, helping them meet their needs and fill roles within the business. Recruiters sometimes see job postings that don’t even make it to public job sites.

Expand Your Search

If you’re having trouble finding summer work, consider expanding your search. Which job sites are you looking at? There are probably several you haven’t thought about yet.

Also, keep in mind the industries you’re searching in for summer work. Are you considering all the industries you could be? Chances are you’ve missed a few. If you’re still not sure, you can always talk to a recruiter. They may bring some new ideas to the table.

Apply

The only way to get summer work is to apply for it. Be sure to submit your applications. It’s not a good idea to apply to every and any job posting you see, however. Think carefully about the job, the skills needed, and how good of a match you are for the job.

You may also want to think about how you fit into the company culture. Will you enjoy working there? If you know someone who worked for this company, talk to them. What did they like? What didn’t they like?

Once you’ve carefully considered your compatibility, go ahead and apply. The more jobs you apply to, the more likely it is you’ll get an interview. Keep in mind you won’t get a callback for every job you apply to.

Practice for the Interview

Once you’ve started applying for summer work, it’s time to practice your interview skills. Scheduling an interview is a big step forward, but you’ll want to be sure you’re prepared. Answer some practice questions. Think about questions to ask the recruiter or the hiring manager.

Practice will help you deliver a better interview performance, which might just land you the job.

Need a Hand?

If you’re still not sure how to go about applying for summer work, talk to a recruiter at Liberty Staffing today. They’ll help you get your job search started on the right foot. You may even land a better position or find your summer job sooner.
