Perhaps you’ve done some research on temp staffing, or maybe you’ve used this service in the past. You’re seriously considering going the perm staffing route this time—but you need to know a little bit more before you make the decision. How exactly does perm staffing work anyway?

Hiring Permanently

The difference between temp and perm staffing is a fairly simple one: Temp staffing provides you with a temporary employee, while perm staffing intends to fill the role permanently. That means the employee you hire is going to be with your company longer. This is an excellent option for businesses that know they’re going to need someone in a vacant role longterm. 

While temp staffing is a great option when you know you need help for a given length of time, there are times when you’ll need to hire permanently—when you know you need someone in that role for the longhaul.

For the most part, businesses have traditionally considered hiring permanently a task that’s better left to an in-house team. But there are a number of reasons businesses should consider working with a staffing agency for permanent hires as well as temporary staffing solutions. They take that information and get to work searching their databases to find you the right people for your position. Since this is a permanent hire, you want to be careful; you don’t want to be reposting this position a few months later because the candidate “just didn’t work out.”

Working with a staffing agency immediately reduces your risk of hiring the wrong person who isn’t a good fit for your business. Not only do you get access to a wider pool of both active and passive job seekers through the agency’s networks, but the agency will work with you to ensure that candidates are as close to your ideal employee as possible.

That means that you’ll spend less time searching and poring over job applications, and more time interviewing people who are enthusiastic about working with you. You’ll also likely spend less time in the hiring process overall, from posting the position to getting your new hire settled in on the first day.
