3_Common_Resume_Mistakes_That_You_Should_AvoidYou've found a job that you'd like to apply to. You feel that the position is perfect for you.  You believe you'll be a good fit for the role. Now it's time to send off your resume.

Before sending out your resume, you'll want to update it, and proofread for spelling errors. After all, when an employer sees a resume with mistakes, it'll be likely tossed into the no pile. Even one minor mistake on your resume could break your chances of landing an interview.

At Liberty Staffing, we want you to succeed in your professional life. Watch out for these common resume mistakes before sending out your application.

1. Sending a "One Size Fits All" Resume

A common mistake that most candidates make is sending the same resume to different job opportunities. Whenever you're sending out your resume to an employer, you'll want to tailor it to the position that you are applying for.

For example, if you're applying to a Data Entry Clerk position, you'll probably want to leave out your warehouse experience, and any other information that doesn't pertain directly to the role you're seeking.

Sending a basic, "one size fits all" resume will not gain you access to that next step in the recruitment process. You may come off as not being truly interested in the position. You will likely not get a call back from a hiring manager.

So take some time to  thoroughly read the job description that you're interested in, and then tailor your resume to the role at hand.

2. Too Long or Too Short

As a staffing agency in Ontario, we've come across all sorts of different resumes. We've received long and short resumes. You may be wondering what the ideal resume length should be.

The answer: a resume should be no longer than two pages. Anything over two pages and potential employers lose interest, and don't have time to read your whole document.

Remember that hiring managers are busy. They need to make the right hiring decision quickly. Make sure that your resume clearly states your skills and experience that's relevant to the position. Keep your resume to the point.

3. Second Page With No Contact Information

Most resumes are two pages in length. A common mistake that most candidates make is not putting their name and contact information anywhere on the second page of their resume. This will be fine for employers who print out your resume double sided, but what about hiring managers that print single sheets?

Hiring managers have so many resumes to go through, without any contact information on the second page of your resume, it may get lost in the mix.

Be sure to put your name and contact information in the header or footer of the second page of your resume, before you send it out.
