Here are some of the benefits of working in a warehouse.

1.  Warehouses are Pretty Much Always Hiring

There are some seasons when warehouses need to increase their hiring, but even outside of those busy seasons, warehouses are almost always hiring new employees

If you check out current trends in the warehousing industry, you’ll see that warehouse work is in high demand. Warehouses are often understaffed, especially in times of economic growth for the industry as a whole.

This means that if you’re looking for a job where you can start right away, no matter what time of year it is, seeking employment at a warehouse is probably a pretty safe bet!

2. Warehouses are Often Open to Temporary Workers

Sometimes, you just need a job for a certain period, not forever. You may not want to work at a warehouse for your entire career, but you need a job to help bridge the gap between positions in your dream industry. Or maybe you need to make some extra money while your kids are at school, while you’re home from university, or during the holidays.

Warehouses like to hire temporary workers! That makes it a great industry to look into if you want to find short term work right away.

3. Warehouse Work Doesn’t Typically Require a Degree

Some jobs within a warehouse require a university degree, like being a distribution manager or HR professional. However, the majority of warehouse work does not require you to have a degree.

If you check out any list of big companies that hire warehouse workers, you’ll see that they usually don’t require a degree. If you graduated from high school or have earned your GED, warehouse opportunities are plentiful.

4. There are Plenty of Opportunities for “Moving Up the Ladder”

Some people start out in warehouse positions thinking that it will just be a short term position, and then they end up enjoying a long career in the industry. That is because there’s so much room in warehousing for hardworking employees to advance!

Once you have experience, you can pursue a position as a shift leader, unit manager, quality assurance manager, logistics manager, and many other management positions. Check out our recent blog post about how to start working towards your first promotion, which you can start doing as soon as you take a warehouse job.

5. Certifications Can Help You Earn More Money

Even though warehouse jobs don’t require a specific degree, certain certifications can help you advance in your warehouse work.

You can earn certificates and licenses in the areas where you want to work. For example, having a forklift license can make you a far more appealing job candidate because you have the experience and training that is necessary to do important work within the facility.

When you are credentialed and licensed, your pay potential increases quite a bit!

Working in the diamond mines in the Northwest Territories and the oil sands of Northern Alberta, I wore many administrative hats. From recruiting and onboarding, safety orientations and document control, budgeting and invoicing! After retiring my career at the remote sites, I focused my energy into working directly as a dispatcher and head recruiter for a placement agency in Victoria, BC. Upon my return to Ontario, it was just fitting to continue my work that I love here with Liberty Staffing Services. Work doesn’t end a 5pm! At home on the horse farm, I am constantly working in my garden and in the winter months in my garage building things for the garden for the following spring.
