How_to_Find_a_Great_Temporary_Job_for_the_Summer.jpgWhen you’re in school throughout the year, you’re busy. You have homework, recitals, sports practice, study groups, and exams to worry about. You don’t have the time to dedicate to employment. Your priorities are getting good grades and finishing school, whether you’re in high school, college, or university. Sometimes it’s not possible to balance school and work at the same time.

But once the sun starts to shine, the snow melts, and exams are done for the year, you have a few months free. You can finally work and gain some much needed income to get you through the upcoming school year. But finding a permanent job isn’t ideal, considering you’ll be right back in school once fall comes around again. When you’re only looking for work during the summer, the best solution is to find a temporary job, one that you only have to commit to for a few months.

Finding a Temporary Job on Your Own

You only have a few months available to work, so you can’t spend the majority of that time just looking for a temporary job. You could spend months searching for a job, and that isn’t effective if you want to maximize each day of your summer vacation in order to bank the most amount of money.

Finding a summer job on your own can be time consuming and tedious. It can take a long time to get called back for an interview if you don’t have any contacts within the companies you’re looking to work for. You’ll not only be searching for a job instead of actually working and making money, but you’ll also be wasting precious days that you could have had off to spend with friends and family to enjoy the weather. Your job search will be a full-time commitment. You’ll have to spend hours each and every day—including nights and weekends—scouring the internet for temp jobs in your area, refining your cover letters, and contacting hiring managers. And remember, you’ll be competing against hundreds of other adults and students alike who are seeking summer work, too. So it isn’t going to be easy on your own.

This isn’t the best way to go about it.

How to Find a Temporary Job in a Jiffy

You need to find a great temporary job quickly, so you can start working right away once exams are over. The best way to do so is to engage a staffing agency.

A staffing agency will already have loads of clients looking to hire temp workers just like you for the summer. All you need to do is apply to the staffing firm and let its recruiters do all of the work for you. Its recruiters will work with you to figure out which skills and experience you have that would match the temporary employment opportunities currently available. They’ll contact hiring managers for you and get you set up for the interview. They’ll even help improve your resume and give you interview tips to ensure that you succeed in your interviews. Plus, since many companies work exclusively with staffing agencies to fill their open temp positions, you’ll gain access to a hidden job market, and this will cut down significantly on the competition.

When you work with a staffing agency to find a temporary job, you’ll gain a partner in your job search. Your recruiters will do the legwork to help you find a job faster, and help you find one that you will love. You’ll be able to earn some much-needed cash while also filling up your resume with new skills and experience for your future. It’s a win-win. To get the best chance at the best jobs, apply to a temp staffing agency in your field of interest before the summer starts—many summer jobs are already filled by April, so it pays to start early.
