5_Tips_for_Candidates_Attending_Job_Fairs.jpgIf you're looking for work, attending a job fair is a great way to get your name out there and make connections with hiring managers. When you attend a job fair, it's important to make a lasting impression on an employer. Here are five helpful tips for candidates attending job fairs.

1. Dress to Impress

Dress for the job that you want. First impressions are everything when it comes to job fairs and interviews. An employer may be less likely to hire you if your attire does not fit their company's policies.

2. Bring Copies of Your Resume

Print off multiple copies of your resume before you head into a job fair. Give every employer you encounter your resume. The more resumes that you give out, the greater your chances of being contacted by hiring managers after the job fair.

3. Have a Positive Attitude

Nobody likes a negative Nancy. That's why it's important to have a positive attitude when you enter any job fair. You will seem more approachable if you smile and have positive body language. Walk in to the job fair with optimism and confidence. You'll be more likely to succeed in gaining a new job if you exude positivity.

4. Collect Contact Information

As you move from booth to booth, and person to person, make sure to collect as much contact information as possible at a job fair. After all, every person that you encounter opens a door of opportunity to gain employment. Every connection that you make can help advance your career.

It's also a good idea to collect contact information from other job seekers at the fair. They may give insight to other upcoming job fairs or networking events which may help in your job search.

5. Be Prepared to Sell Yourself

Often, during a job fair, employers will conduct a brief interview with you. This is when you need to sell yourself and showcase your skills to the hiring manager. So be ready to speak about your past work experience, your professional strengths, and where you see yourself in five years. Pitch yourself to the employer on why you would be a good fit for their company.
