Let’s face it – no one is perfect when it comes to resume writing, but there are certain things that you can include in your resume to create effectiveness. Whether you are updating or writing you resume for the first time, Liberty Staffing Services would like to provide you with a checklist regarding what to include in your resume.
Contact Information
Probably the most important thing on your resume is your contact information. After all, the point of sending out your resume is to have potential employers contact you regarding interviews. So make sure that your contact information is correct, and that there are different ways to reach you. Some employers may prefer to send an email, while others will call.
Relevant Work Experience
Include all of your relevant past work experience to your resume. Make sure that it’s applicable to the new job that you’re applying for. If you are writing your resume for the first time, you may not have any experience to include, and that’s okay. In this case, add volunteer experience, school projects, etc.
Dates of Employment
Make sure that you have the correct dates of employment on your resume. This is especially important if you are asked to provide references following an interview.
Page Numbers
If your resume is more than one page, make sure to add page numbers to your resume. This can be at the top or bottom of your resume, whichever you prefer. By having page numbers on your resume, there’s less chance of your pages getting misplaced.
References Available Upon Request
Write “references available upon request” at the end of your resume. That way, if you are selected for an interview, the potential employer will be able to ask for references. A good reference will validate your work experience and may increase your chances of landing the job.
